Transparency International Latvia and U.S. Embassy in Latvia organised the online roundtable discussion “Legislation on Lobbying in Latvia”. The aim of this event is to increase awareness and discussion about what is the best international practice and what is the best scope and principles of the lobbying regulation in Latvia. On the Fourth Evaluation Round GRECO recommended the introduction of rules on how Members of Parliament engage with lobbyists and other third parties who seek to influence the legislative process.
In 2019 was established the Working Group for Transparent Lobbying Framework of the Defence, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee of the Latvian Parliament (Committee) and the development of the lobbying regulation started with a new energy. At the beginning of 2021, the Committee invited public to participate in a public consultation and submit comments and recommendations regarding the document called “Basic regulatory principles of transparent interest representation. Public consultations before a draft law at the Latvian Parliament”.
We have invited international experts to share their experience and recommendations, MPs of the Latvian Parliament and Latvian experts to share their vision on lobbying in Latvia. It is a great opportunity to meet internationally recognized anti-corruption and good governance experts, who provide advice and recommendations on a daily basis to many countries on their path to more democratic political environment.
