AIM OF THE PROJECT: Rise up youth civic participation level by understanding the mechanisms of youth civic participation in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Latvia; and to develop a complex and research-based tool that improves civic competence of youth, put in use at least four civic participation mechanisms (elections, participatory budgeting, civic councils, public consultation etc.) in municipalities.
By implementing the project will be developed INDEX of youth civic participation in municipalities, SIMULATION GAME and TRAINER OF MUNICIPALITY 16+, that will help youth to develop civic competence and allow them to be more confidently involved in municipalities and supervise municipalities’ management.
In partner-countries at least 500 young people will complete INDEX, 200 – play SIMULATION GAME; 160 people – visit on-site events and get to know TRAINER OF MUNICIPALITY 16+; 15 municipalities – involved in the project.
TARGET GROUPS:
Primary target group in Latvian, Czech and Slovenian municipalities in different regions:
- young people (16-25 years old, including members of youth NGOs, with different knowledge and skills in the field of civic participation);
- youth workers (in NGOs, youth centers and municipalities);
- municipal employees (responsible for public participation).
Secondary target group is decision-makers at the regional and national level, who will be informed about the project activities and the conducted research in the field of youth civic participation.
MAIN ACTIVITIES:
External communication and implementation of project results – informing project target groups about project activities and results, via project partners’ communication channels regional and national media. Consolidation of the project theme in the target groups, recognition, distribution and popularization of the project deliverables as well as sharing of good practices and project deliverables at the European Union level. Advocacy activities to improve the civic participation of young people in municipalities.
Development of the youth civic participation INDEX – a research-based digital self-assessment tool that will allow every young person in the project’s partner countries to identify the level of civic participation, while youth workers and municipalities will be helped to analyze opportunities for youth involvement. The INDEX will be completed by 500 young people in all partner countries. Based on the results of the INDEX will be developed and published the report on the self-assessment results of civic participation of young people, guidelines for youth workers on how to promote youth civic participation, and a dictionary explaining the possibilities of civic participation.
Development of the civic participation TRAINER MUNICIPALITY 16+ – based on the INDEX of youth civic participation and the simulation game (includes at least four participation mechanisms (civic councils, participatory budgeting, municipal elections, public consultation, etc.). Playing the simulation game, young people will improve their civic participation competences. The simulation game will be complemented by ROAD MAP for youth workers to explain the issues of youth civic participation and provide recommendations for further work with young people. This set of activities will form the civic participation TRAINER MUNICIPALITY 16+, it is planned to produce around 250 copies and distribute them to the project’s target groups and present them at seminars and conferences also internationally.
